My daughter who trained as a Physician Assistant, and who is dedicated to her own workout regimen, is always encouraging me to put more into my own physical routine. With my slightly dodgy hip, I’ve been hesitant to walk too far from home, and the hills in my neighborhood are a bit beyond my current capabilities. Meredith works out early, EARLY in the morning. However, my morning routine includes a cup of tea, a couple of word puzzles and some practice on my Spanish language app, followed by Bible reading and prayer once my brain is finally awake.
Meredith told me last summer that even a ten-minute walk after every meal would reap great benefits. That seemed completely doable, so last summer Dave and I would do a ten-minute walk every day after lunch and dinner. But that breakfast walk still eluded me. I didn’t want to get dressed, then come back and shower and get dressed again. I know how lazy that sounds. But if you’re going to stick with something you have to make it enjoyable.
Suddenly last week it occurred to me that I’m 73 years old. If I want to go for a walk in my pajamas, why not? I mean, if you can’t look like a crazy, old woman when you finally are a crazy, old woman then when will you ever? And if it will be a healthy practice, then it’s worth the small humiliation. So, my resolution for 2026 is to go pajama-walking for ten minutes every morning.
I’m hoping to start a trend.
Love, Liz
